The goal of both the National College of District Attorneys and the National Center for Prosecution Ethics is to provide you with a website that delivers the information, resources, and services that are most relevant and helpful to you. In order to achieve this goal, we may collect information during your visits to understand what differentiates you from other users.

This statement of the privacy practices for the www.ethicsforprosecutors.com site explains what personally identifiable information of yours may be or is collected, how and when we might use your information, who has access to your information, and how you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.

WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED

Ethicsforprosecutors.com may or does collect certain information from and about its users in three ways -- directly from the user, from our Web server logs, and with cookies.

Collection: User-Supplied Information

When you register or join www.ethicsforprosecutors.com to gain access to the Members Only portions of the site, you will be asked to print, complete and fax a membership application form to the National Center for Prosecution Ethics. The information on this form will be verified prior to the approval or refusal of any application. Information on this form will be stored and shared with the National College of District Attorneys; this information may be used for mailings of both the National Center for Prosecution Ethics and the National College of District Attorneys. This information will also be used, as necessary, to enforce the restriction of access to the site to only those who are employed as prosecutors, either full time or part-time, and who have no connections to or involvement with the representation of or giving of advice to persons or entities charged with or suspected of committing crime(s).

In addition, when you use a resource, such as the Members Only Forum, we may ask you for your name, e-mail address, and some other personal information. Except in circumstances where the information is essential for a particular resource, you always have a choice whether or not to disclose information to us. In other words, some information may be required, such as your e-mail address to post a message, but other requested information is optional and may be given at your discretion.

Collection: Server Log Information

Ethicsforprosecutors.com, like many other sites, may record basic information from persons who visit its site, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, the time of each visit, and the referring location for each visit (e.g., the Site or page that offered a link to an Ethicsforprosecutors.com page).

Collection: Cookies

In order to offer and provide a customized, personal resource, ethicsforprosecutors.com may use “cookies” to store and help track your information.

“ Cookies” are a collection of information, usually including a username, stored on the hard drive of the computer of a person using the World Wide Web, used primarily by websites to identify users who have previously registered or visited the site. While most browsers are set up to accept cookies, you may reset your browser either to notify you when you receive a cookie or to refuse to accept cookies. You should understand that some sites or parts of some sites may not function properly if you set your browser to not accept cookies or if you reject a cookie.

To the extent that ethicsforprosecutors.com archives the Members Only Forum discussion posts, you should remember that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online, such as through e-mail or discussion groups, your information could be collected and used by others. ETHICSFORPROSECUTOS.COM CANNOT ENSURE OR WARRANT THE SECURITY OF ANY INFORMATION YOU TRANSMIT TO US OR POST OR TRANSMIT ON OR THROUGH THE MEMBERS ONLY FORUM, AND YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. You are also solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of any passwords you set up and/or any account information.
