PURPOSE OF NATIONAL CENTER FOR PROSECUTION ETHICS
The National Center for Prosecution Ethics is a part of
the National District Attorneys Association. The Center
is a forum for the study and objective analysis of legislative
enactments, judicial rules and decisions as well as proposals
by bar associations, state prosecutorial associations, and
state and national defense lawyer associations. The Center
strives to be a respected center for scholarship for all
components of the criminal justice system. But perhaps even
more importantly, the Center serves as the resource so needed
by state and local prosecutors who are confronted on a daily
basis with ethical issues.
The National Center for Prosecution Ethics includes a resource
center for the collection and dissemination of materials
relating to rules, standards, guidelines, and administrative
and judicial opinions concerning the professional responsibility
of prosecutors. These materials are accessible to prosecutors
around the country over the Internet through the Center’s
website, www.ethicsforprosecutors.com.
In addition, the National College of District Attorneys
(the Education Division of the National District Attorneys
Association) will also, under the auspices of the National
Center for Prosecution Ethics, conduct educational programs
around the country and develop strategies and offer technical
assistance for the implementation of rules of professional
responsibility more considerate of the uniqueness of the
prosecution function.
In keeping with its goal of educating state and local prosecutors
on their ethical and professionalism responsibilities and
serve the best interests of justice, the National Center
for Prosecution Ethics will provide assistance to prosecutors
who are confronted with ethics and professionalism issues
in the performance of their jobs.
The Center does not, however, provide legal advice or perform
investigations, and it does not advocate for or against
prosecutors who are facing disciplinary or other complaints
involving allegations of non-compliance with rules of ethics
and professionalism.
Members of the news media are requested to direct
questions or requests for information to Velva M.
Walter, Director Media Relations for the National
District Attorneys Association (703-519-1689 or mediacontact@ndaa.org).
The Association may be able to provide assistance
in either obtaining information or locating an elected
prosecutor with whom the media can talk.
